Chanel shoes spring summer 2017 at Paris fashion week are about juxtaposition of technology hardware and fashion. “This is technology. But with the lingerie, it’s intimate technology!” as described by Karl Lagerfeld.
The show took place in Grand Palais, staged like a data center with colorful ethernet cords spewed from stacks of servers. The models wearing Chanel spring 2017 collection walked between the sever cabinets on a stark white runway to tell a story of a strange and surreal beauty of fashion and the unseen infrastructure powers our lives.
The first look was models dressed in chic Chanel tweed skirt suit and accessorized with artificial intelligence robots helmets, gloves and futurist designed white knee high boots in black and white.
Then it comes the block heel cut out ankle boots. Over laid pieces wrapped around the ankle closed with straps look like Velcro cable binder. The upper fabric was padded for extra thickness and stiffness and lasered with dotted patterns like a circuit board ready to be wired.
Chanel’s classic capped toe two tone ballet flats were reintroduced in silver carbon fiber texture and black suede for an off-beat polish of today’s technology.
With a love letter to Silicon Valley, Chanel officially entered the information era next spring even though tweeds has been a good resemblance of circuit boards since long time ago.“It’s something of our time,” Karl Lagerfeld said during a preview. “The whole thing is like booting up, wiring up.”
