Maison Margiela Couture Spring 2017 fashion show was about the intersections between past and present. John Galliano showed an artisanal collection for Maison Margiela in the way that how reality is veiled in the social media era.
The shafts of ankle boots are puffed with a string closure on top and grounded with chunky heels. Toe box carries a hint of split toe from Maison Margiela spring 2017 collection.
Loose tailored knee high boots are strapped up around the legs, looking bold, wild and creative, with contemporary youth consciousness. Build in a basic shape of a shaft but made wearable with straps, these boots are well-defined by décortiqué, as called by the designer, means removing blocks of fabric until an item was reduced to its essential frame, “to reduce it down to the memory of the emotion” as the designer quoted.
Then comes the pumps constructed with leather and clear vinyl. The layering of clear toe box and back upper with white leather interpreted one of the designer’s inspirations, which comes from social media’s impact on visual communication, specifically the app filters layered onto photos to alter the reality.
