The brand, named after the co-founders’ family names (chi-ko), traces its roots to a shoe manufacturer since the beginning of the century, catered to fully customizable one-of-a-kind women fashion shoes, which are designed by the consumer or custom made from the clients’ shoe illustrations.
By listening closely to its customers to offer them the fashion they desire, CHIKO expanded the business into retailing by the end of 2012.

CHIKO was co-founded by Judy Chin and R. Kolkman in 1999.

CHIKO was co-founded by R. Kolkman and Judy Chin in 1999 with the mission of managing all vital aspects of product development, prototype and shoe production so that their clients can focus on the marketing and sales.
The company was named after the co-founders’ family names (Chi- Ko).
During the early days of CHIKO as a shoe manufacturer, the founders of CHIKO found that not only the brand designers are working with sketches, but also the consumers enjoy the idea of designing their own shoes by sketching them, and have them custom made into wearable shoes.
This inspired CHIKO to open the supply chain to the individual/freelance designers in 2007 by launching the website of Chikoshoes.com
By the end of November 2012, after test run for almost two years, CHIKO officially shifted gears into retailing by launching CHIKO Online Store and bespoke shoes custom made from scratch. The initial collection “affordable high end” was very well received and made record sales.
With the quality made to last, CHIKO Online Store is updated with refreshing new arrivals every week, to allow the mainstream consumer to take advantage of current shoe styles at a lower price.
In October 2013, CHIKO launched the instant shoe design interface online. Users can design their own shoes online, add or delete design elements, color the shoes, add personal text in just a few clicks.
In July 2014, CHIKO debut the first collection of high quality fashion handbag line under its own brand.
In August 2015, CHIKO expanded the business into men shoes collection after the very successful launch of unisex light up sneakers.
