Inspired by Cornwall, the southernmost county of the United Kingdom, Alexander McQueen collection fall winter 2017/2018 told a story about ancient legends, traditions, motif and paganism. “I felt this sense of groundedness, of needing to feel the land, and tradition,” said Sarah Burton.

The rags and ribbons tied to a Cloutie tree for wishes and mementoes in ancient time themed the collection. They were also incorporated into the ankle boots on the runway as loose threads hanging off the upper, part of the patchwork of artisanal embroidered samplers.

Ribbons were also transformed into red leather strips, laced up on the side of the boots and woven into a metal chain for a vision of whipstitch.

To make it more graphic intensive, the ancient artisanal embroidered samplers in red and white were printed on the leather upper of some boots, for a symbolic and medieval tribal style.

Then there were boots inspired by the armor of ancient female warriors, rivets studded, buckled down and winged up at the back, delivering a message about empowering women.
