The boots was crafted with pointy square toe and cowboy boots heels. Slouchy pull on shafts of cowboy boots were replaced by tight fit oxfords or Chelsea boots upper made of leather or suede. It made them look very smart, instantly office or party ready. Some toe tips were metal capped, further enhanced the couture vibe.
Women boots were designed with lace up front and high heels. The baroque swirls on some of the uppers were inspired by the baroque interiors of France’s great palaces. The same swirls also found their way to the mini handbags.
Aside from French lean tailoring and baroque interiors, France politics and freshly elected President Emmanuel Macron also had some impact on Balmain Menswear Spring 2018 collection. “I have to say I’m more proud than ever of my country for what they did [in the election]. Because I do believe they gave the hope for the new generation and the generation after me. France in the ’80s was shining around the world, pushing boundaries. . . and today I am really believing in the country and how it can shine around the world again.” Said the designer.
