Erdem collection fall winter 2017/2018 was inspired by the designer’s great-grandmothers, one from England and the other from Turkey. It’s about“an improbable meeting between two women, which could never have happened — [his] great-grandmothers.”

Including loafers, platform sandals, lace up boots and pointy toe kitten heels, the shoes on the runway is a culture mix of England and Turkey detailed on patterns, colors and textures.

Inspired by Turkish Ottoman wooden stilt shoes, the platform sandals were designed with peep toes, chunky heels and a pointy tip which originated from ancient Ottoman slippers. Two black ribbons across the front and buckled down with a sparkly brooch like from English countryside granny’s jewelry box. Uppers are floral embroidered. Some heels are covered with fabric in Turkish carpet patterns.

Featuring curvy back upper and pointy tip at front, flat loafers on the runway carried the most elements of ancient Turkish slippers. Brocade uppers were embroidered with flowers to elaborate the English side of the story.

Up to mid-calf, laces up boots are designed with square toe and Islamic patterned chunky heels. Uppers are romantically covered in floral prints, the English side of the Erdem identity.
