Spring Summer 2015 collections were shown at Paris Fashion Week between the 23rd of September to the 1st of October. From the sexualisation to feminism, the designers looked at the past and reinvent it for the future.

The collestions are either focused on fantacy sex appeal or function appeal for reality. Given modern woman will have to walk, work and live in the garments and shoes everyday, it’s not hard to notice the comfortable flats and sturdy block heels will continue to be in trend for a while.

 

Sarah Burton’s new collection for Alexander McQueen is geisha and samurai inspired. The designer fell in love with the notion that clothes could have so much personal meaning for their owners in Japan and come up with that idea of preciousness as new inspiration. “Make your clothes so they mean something,” was her mantra.

As for the shoes, nothing is more perfect than lace up gladiator sandals for the ultimate lady warriors with harness wrapped around a purely feminine kimono shape. The two part molded soles are very McQueen kink, with piped uppers. The curved bottom part of the sole is functional and softened the look, adding a bit of romantic feel to the total shoe design.

 

Miuccia Prada found the inspiration of late fifties and early sixties for her Spring 2015 Collection, to be more precise, a buzzy, trashy, slutty form of late fifties, early sixties. It’s about a girl who’s gone to the bad, and is enjoying every single moment of it.

Cropped pants and pencil skirts are paired with straight forward fifties shoe designs, the style you would found on Marilyn Monroe. Giant platform sandals, kitten heel mules and feminine pointy toe pumps with big bow on the toe box, asserted the designer’s rebellious form of the feminine in fashion of today.

 

Louise Vuitton spring 2015 collection is about “explore any part of the universe without moving.” The designer took on the idea that fashion has diversified with different tastes and habits and mix-matched the mater pieces of different times.

“I want to erase reference. I want to talk to multiple people. I didn’t want to think too much, just follow my instincts,” said the designer. “And just create desire.”

The shoes on the runway of Louis Vuitton are mixed and matched too, with colorful patched upper, featuring square and propeller shaped heels. The ankle boots are designed with leather strip caged cutout, or piped in the shape look like LV monogram. The designer surely hit the target of creating desire.

 

Givenchy Spring 2015 collection ranked at the top of the very best collections of the season. It’s sexy, classy, powerful and young. The inspiration comes from “Flipper—the old computer pinball game—the black-and-white graphics,” the designer exclaimed backstage. “And Tyrolean dress. Naughty rock girls!”

The lace up garments are matched with lace front peep toe high leather boots, featuring block heel with metal pin and thin buckled ankle straps. The tight leather boots are fierce, costumy and sexy. “In the beginning, when I started, it was much more tough and sexy,” the designer said. “I feel like women today tell me that’s what’s missing from the market.”

 

Dior designer, Raf Simons, said his intention was to create something “modern,” but also to question what modern really means. Simons liked what he did in July’s Couture, finding the future in the far past, and extended it to spring 2015 ready to wear.

Dior ateliers looked into the historical elements and reinvented the collection for modern days.  Dior’s runway shoes precisely interpreted the designer’s concept. The pumps and boots feature knitted upper with curved heels. What can be more old and new at the same time than knitting? A hands-on craftsmanship from ancient time, which is evolved into machine work of today and most likely to be more elaborated by future 3D print technology. Past, present and future are blended on the runway with subtle precision of the details.

 

Karl Lagerfeld’s unexpected culmination of the Chanel SS15 collection brought fashion and feminism in the same sphere, which is something we have never seen before at fashion weeks. Chanel models strutted down the catwalk waving the banners demanding women’s rights, in a faux protest that was simultaneously hailed as a breakthrough for a new wave of feminism and decried as consumerist claptrap.

“I like the fact that people think I’m insane,” Karl Lagerfeld chuckled. “Next time, I make some minimalistic things, no?”

As for the shoes, they are designed with low comfortable block heels that everyone can play with. From Watercolor shaded boots with black patent cap toe to golden metallic lace front open toe sandals, the shoes are ideal for modern women daily wear. It looks like the “ugly” but comfortable shoe trend is not going away anytime soon.
