Marc Jacobs collection fall winter 2017/2018 was inspired by “Hip-Hop Evolution”, Netflix documentary series. No music, no lights, no fancy settings, the show took place on the street, a very proper place to present a collection which is inspired by Hip-Hop.

“As a born and bred New Yorker, it was during my time at the High School of Art and Design when I began to see and feel the influence of hip-hop on other music as well as art and style. This collection is my representation of the well-studied dressing up of casual sportswear. It is an acknowledgement and gesture of my respect for the polish and consideration applied to fashion from a generation that will forever be the foundation of youth culture street style.” Said Marc Jacobs.

The designer looked back at 70’s for the shoes on the runway and updated the classic vintage styles with modern twist.

Featuring small square toe, the pull on boots were grounded with stacked chunky heels. Leather shaft naturally crinkled around the ankle and fitted tightly on top. They are relaxed, confident, versatile and walkable.

The retro platform boots are stitch embroidered on the upper with sort of burnished finish. Molded chunky heel, platforms, lug sole and tough leather looked grungy, edgy and powerful.

“Every one of the creative decisions — from music to styling to accessories to shoes to bags to clothes to the girls, the diversity of the casting or the lack of diversity of the casting, everything — it’s all part of the experience,” Marc Jacobs told WWD last week when explaining his approach to his shows.
