Prada shoes resort 2018 are a perfect combination of femininity and sportswear elements, achieving elegance through sports sneakers and transparent dresses or mini skirts.
Prada Resort 2018 collection took place in Fondazione Prada’s Observatory in Milan, an exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art and visual arts.
“I wanted to do a modernist show, then we had this place, and the lightness and the industrial were very much inspiring,” said the designer after the show.
Though the cloth may be dreamy, artistic and conceptual, the shoes on the runway of Prada resort 2018 are rooted in reality. “I wanted to work on contemporary and sports but [aiming for] a metamorphosis into elegance” the designer explained.
Crafted in brown, gray or black with a touch of pastel hue, the fashion sneakers were designed with logo marked Velcro straps across front or wrapped around the ankle. The special molded sneaker outersole in metallic silver, also printed with brand’s name, added extra modern flavor to the total design.
In case you miss it, the knee high socks are branded too. “Apparently it’s what is modern now, it’s only [about the logo], so it’s a provocation,” said the designer.
Coming from the inspiration of the show location, the heeled sandals were constructed with caged metallic or patent strap upper, an interpretation of the structured metal ceiling of Fondazione Prada’s Observatory in Milan. The heels were designed to resemble inverted Eiffel towers, according to Vogue.
“I really have in mind what this place means in history and also I really wanted to do a modernist show, so I started looking at the past. [The collection] resonates with [the venue] because it’s modernist and not at all decadent, but there is the beauty and charm of that period, the feminine eccentricity and sensuality of that period” said the designer.
More sports elements were found on the pointy toe pumps – Velcro straps across front, positioned as parallel to a feminine buckled leather strap, achieving the designer’s goal of “the perfect combination” juxtaposing femininity with sports features.
For Prada, it’s a show about resort, not cruise. “I don’t like the word, it sounds so old-fashioned, something useful but not a real show. Sometimes we write cruise, sometimes we don’t. We are always a bit eccentric,” said Miuccia Prada “For me a show is a show. Until the last moment, I didn’t want to write anything [on the invitation], but then nobody understands what it is, so we thought we’d better write [resort].”
