Clear shoe trend was emerging last fall and picking up speed this year. From red carpet to streets, many celebrities were spotted in clear shoes including Kim Kardashian West, Kendall Jenner, Chrissy Teige, Bella Hadid and Rita Ora. Now the clear shoe trend is in full swing on the runway of New York Fashion Week spring 2018.
Made of Lucite, vinyl, mesh or sheer, the versatile sexy and effortless nude shoes are dominating the catwalk of many fashion labels. It leaves little to the imagination and marked the beginning of a new era, “less is more”. Of all the shoes on the runway, the clear shoe designs by Alexander Wang, Oscar de la Renta and Prabal Gurung are particularly impressive.
Alexander Wang
Alexander Wang had fun with clear vinyl and satin for his spring 2018 collection. The strap thong sandals are party ready with ultra-femininity. The pointy toe pumps were crafted with sheer and fishnet socks as upper for a full display.
Oscar de la Renta
Oscar de la Renta clear shoes were pop art decorated with dots of splash in color palette of black, purple, green and blue. The wooden heel supported the shoes like a paint brush handle. Some were painted letters of “Mr. De la Renta”, honoring the house founder.
Prabal Gurung
Prabal Gurung made a bold statement with off-set large square Lucite heels in bright colors of blue, yellow or hot pink. It looks like the models were walking around with giant colorful ice blocks, joyful and fun. Sheer or clear vinyl was crafted into upper which further enhanced the see through effect of the shoes.
