Then there were thong sandals in black suede and white leather with asymmetric ankle straps buckled on the side. A light golden chain was installed to the upper for extra glamour, which wrapped around the ankle and fastened with lobster clasp on the inner side. To avoid the excruciating pain of high heel thongs, the designer considerately altered the upper structure on heeled sandals into a front strap, which made them much more wearable.

This was a debut show for Bouchra Jarrar, the new creative director of Lanvin, replacing Alber Elbaz. She is well known for feminine but not girly designs. “Her timeless style is in keeping with the style and the values of our company,” said chief executive Michèle Huiban of Lanvin.

“For me, Lanvin is femininity,” Bouchra Jarrar mentioned before the show. “I want there to be lightness, to be pleasure, because we all need pleasure in our lives. And sensuality — a drape in the back of a dress say — but always with a twist, so there is self-assurance and there is modernity.”

For Lanvin spring summer 2017 collection, the designer found the inspiration on the legacy of brand’s founder Jeanne Lanvin, who originally started the business by designing clothes for her daughter.

“It was effortless to find the connection,” said Bouchra Jarrar. “I wanted to mix the intellectual with the creative.”

For a brand which has been going through a turbulence and profit loss in the past year, Bouchra Jarrar is under huge responsibility of turning the ship around.“I am fully conscious of my responsibility. I look at things calmly. I weigh up the situation. I create to sell.” said the designer. And her spring summer 2017 collection is certainly steering to a new direction in searching for refinement and harmony.
