Calvin Klein fall winter 2017/2018 show has been long anticipated. It’s the debute collection of Raf Simons as Chief Creative Officer of the brand. The collection was inspired by American youth.
“I keep thinking of all the beauty here; you have to focus on that now. And I think American youth is the future for this country. It’s about gathering. It’s intelligent, honest, powerful, beautiful. It sounds almost simplistic, maybe.” Said Raf Simons.
For a brand that’s mostly known in the public eye for clean lines, the pump designs were kept simple in primarily American minimalism and a provocative sort of sensuality, featuring clear vinyl for toe box and split suede on the back like a wing tip.
For the sandals, the crystal ornamented straps around the ankle are glittering on the runway, injecting luxurious to the urban street style.
Metal tipped cowboy boots with contrast color mix called on the western wear inspiration, addressing one of many iconic American styles among marching band uniforms to power broker tailoring, antique handcrafted quilting and workwear.
“It reflects the environment,” Simons is quoted as saying in the show notes. “All of these different people with different styles and dress codes. It’s the future, the past, Art Deco, the city, the American West…all of these things and none of these things. Not one era, not one thing, not one look. It is the coming together of different characters and different individuals, just like America itself. It is the unique beauty and emotion of America.”
