Chanel is known for hosting shows in far-flung locations. After Resort 2016 show in Seoul, Chanel Resort 2017 show took place in Cuba at El Paseo del Prado, Havana’s most impressive street. A super-luxurious brand of “capitalist” with a show in a communist country which had shut the door for decades – Karl Lagerfeld knows how to impress the press and left them plenty to talk about.
Nearly 40 years ago, the first American cruise ship docked in Havana. Forty years later, on the same day, the designer presented the exquisitely made luxurious 2017 cruise collection, even though there is nowhere to buy Chanel products in Cuba nor can be afforded by the majority. But it marked the change of an era, the increasing interaction of Cuba with the rest of the world, which can be a good thing.
To mix the ultra-French in origin with Che Guevara, Karl Lagerfeld used “beret” as the symbol of French-Cuban culture combo for the show, and worked it into total eighty six looks in different variations along with panama hats.
The styling of Chanel resort 2017 shoes is casual, wearable and joyful with total seven shoe designs presented on the runway, including flip-flops, oxfords, high heeled thong sandals, black & white unisex loafer and metallic block heel strap sandals. The charming details of pearls, sparkly chains, chiffon ornament and metallic upper injected the lively colorful fun flavor into the shoe designs, yet not too polished or distant for a country with rich culture but just opening up.
